After I realised how painfully simple Hummus was to make, I stopped buying it. I also accidentally bought a 600g jar of Tahini that I’ve been trying to make my way through one bowl of hummus at a time… So here’s a tip for this recipe, buy a small jar of Tahini.. unless you have regular use for it, which I generally don’t!

  • 1 can of chickpeas
  • garlic
  • olive oil
  • Tahini (smallest jar possible)
  • 1 lemon
  • cumin and paprika (optional)
  1. Drain and wash the chickpeas (washing might not be necessary if the chickpeas are in water, but a lot of the time they’re in brine and you don’t want super salty hummus)
  2. Blend the chickpeas in a food processor
  3. Add 1 peeled garlic clove to the food processor (or 2… oh go on 2! Just don’t kiss anyone)
  4. Add 1 tablespoon of Tahini, see I told you you don’t need much, a tablespoon of oil and a squeeze of lemon juice. Blend in the food processor.
  5. This is one of these recipes where you keep having to add a little more oil/lemon/salt to get the favour and consistency right.. you may want to let down the mixture with water or a spoonful of greek yogurt if you’re not keen on glugging a load of olive oil in there. I like to add a sprinkle of cumin to mine, and top with sweet paprika… but that’s all up to you.
